How To Contact Any Celebrity – And Get A Great Response!

* Always include a self-addressed stamped envelope.

When writing celebrities, be sure to always enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE). To do this, simply fold an 8 x 10 manila envelope, pre-addressed back to you with the proper postage (usually 2-3 stamps). Use your address as the return address. Enclose all of this along with your letter and photos (more on photos to come) in a 9 x 12 manilla envelope. Make sure you weigh the total package at the post office to ensure correct postage!

Insider Tip: Use an online service like Stamps.com to calculate and print the exact postage from your computer! (Enter promo code C-48K4-W3W to get a free $80 offer including $25 in postage, a 5 pound digital scale, a free supplies kit and a 4 week trial).

* Include an unsigned photo of the celebrity you’re writing.

Celebrities will often send you back an autographed photo of themselves, but to make it easier for them, it’s always a good idea to include one of your own. This can be any type of photo, even one torn out of a magazine will do.

Insider Tip: Visit http://www.AmazingCelebrityPhotos.com for the source we use to get great unsigned celebrity photos. They probably have some great ones of your favorite star!

* Send packages at your own risk.

If you choose to send a package or gift to a celebrity, do so at your own risk. Unless you are a small business or a legitimate company, celebrities and their representatives do not like receiving packages from people they don’t know.

* Include index cards for extra autographs.

A good way to get some extra autographs for friends and family is to enclose up to three 3 x 5 unlined index cards. Only enclose a maximum of three – more is asking a little too much. Celebrities will often return these to you, and they’re a great addition to your collection.

* Acknowledge the star’s accomplishments.

Always include a letter of acknowledging the celebrity’s accomplishments. Constructive criticism is okay, but be assured that non-constructive criticism will result in your letter ending up in the trash!

* Research, research, research.

Be sure to research the celebrity’s biography and works. A great
place to do this is on the Internet with Google and IMDB.com (the Internet Movie Database). Including personal information about the star in your letter will make the person reading it all the more willing to reply.

* Remember this KISS Formula.

When writing your celebrity, remember the KISS Formula:

“Keep It Simple, Stupid!”

Keep your letter short, and get to the point quickly. If you’re writing to request an autograph, kindly ask but don’t beg. Be neat and complete. Type your letter, or at least write neatly. Double-space, and remember to include your name and address on the letter – and check your spelling!

* Patience pays.

The hardest part about writing a celebrity is waiting for a reply. The key is to be patient. Some celebrities will respond immediately, but remember the average time it takes to get a response is approximately 4 to 6 weeks. Hopefully your celebrity will respond faster!

One of the Leading Magazines – OK Magazine

OK Magazine features exclusive interviews and personal experiences of celebrities and it also includes pregnancies and engagements. The pregnancies of various celebrities like Jordan and Peter, Steven Gerrard and Alex Curran were covered by this magazine in 2005. Also, the engagements of stars like Andy Scott-Lee, Liberty X singer and Michelle Heaton were announced in the magazine which had some unusual deals with it.

Every magazine has its own policies and rules to follow. Even this particular magazine has a policy of publishing only positive things about a celebrity. But when it had an interview with Britney Spears in 2007, her actions were so unreliable that the magazine had to break this policy of theirs.

It was not only Britney that the magazine had a word with, but with her mother, Lynne Spears and her younger sister, Jamie Lynn Spears as well. They talked about the issue regarding Jamie Lynn’s pregnancy. According to the records, this particular issue was the greatest selling copy of 2007.

Even recently, in August 2008, when Britney Spears had an interview with the magazine at her house, it was again noticed by the magazine people that her attitude has not changed and it had the same old impulsive behaviour. In spite of this, she conversed in the entire interview that she is ‘healthy, happy and eager for the future’.

We all know that this particular magazine is very well known for its coverage of wedding ceremonies of famous stars. This magazine is liked by most people as it had a lot of coverage on the latest news about what is happening in the day to day lives of the celebrities.

It was in news that OK was recently awarded with £1,033,156 in a court case. The magazine, after a lot of issues finally got the rights to the marriage of Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas, but afterwards these photos had also been published by its rival magazine- Hello, due to which OK! had to sue the opponent.

The marriages of three stars- Samia Ghadie and property developer Matthew Smith, Jordan and Peter and Kate Garraway and Derek Draper, took place on the very same day, in October 2005. The magazine did not leave a single chance of covering them and it did the task wonderfully by covering each and every aspect of the issues. In fact, the largest wedding was actually covered in two big issues, which was of Jordan and Peter.

So we can see that covering so many issues and publishing positive things about the celebrities made a huge impact on the people and this magazine is now one of the leading magazines in the country.

What is the Best Way to Ask a Celebrity For an Autograph?

In this celebrity obsessed culture we now live in it can be hard to imagine our favourite celebs doing normal everyday things such as food shopping or eating in a restaurant. Of course they do do these things like everyone, they are human after all! Most of us are interested in the world of celebrity to some extent whether it is a fascination with a certain sportsman or actress. We tend to put these people up on a pedestal and imagine that they live some sort of god-like existence. But there will be times when celebrities are spotted doing normal everyday things and this is a perfect opportunity for an avid celebrity autograph collector to obtain an autograph.

If you are not used to seeing celebrities wandering around doing normal things then the chances are you may feel very star-struck and nervous. Of course you want to get an autograph to add to your collection but you don’t want to seem rude or pushy, and most of all you don’t want to disturb them going about their daily business. However, celebrities are well aware of their popularity and the effect that their presence may have on some people and they will be very used to being asked for autographs. Therefore most celebs will be friendly and co-operative if you were to approach them.

However, there is a way of approaching a celeb for an autograph that will greatly increase your chances of getting what you want. You should make sure that you are polite and friendly at all times; this is the key to getting an autograph. Keep in mind that celebrities are really just normal people like us who just happen to have some extra special qualities that make them famous. If you remember this it will help you to calm your nerves when approaching them.

It is useful to remember that you are not the first person to ask them for an autograph. Chances are they have been involved in numerous press opportunities and have had to sign hundreds maybe even thousands of autographs in the past. They therefore should be used to the situation and there is nothing to worry about. All you have to do is to imagine that you are the sort of person who asks celebs for their autograph all the time, think about what you’re going to say before approaching them and be confident!

You should be confident when approaching the celebrity but don’t seem too cocky or pushy. You should politely introduce yourself and compliment him or her on their latest film or last match or whatever it is they do. You should make sure that you are armed with a pen and paper and hold it out for the celebrity to sign but don’t force it on them. You should ask politely for an autograph and if they decline just say “thank you anyway. It was nice meeting you” and leave them to it. If the celeb does give you a signature then always remember to be very thankful and polite.

If you have a camera with you then you can always ask for a picture with them as well. Follow the same etiquette that you did with the autograph, if they refuse be polite and walk away.

Collecting Movie Posters

Collecting movie posters is a very popular hobby among movie buffs. Thousands of movie posters are available for sale online and at auctions. But if you decide to collect posters, you’ll need to decide what direction you want to follow so you don’t get a piecemeal collection where the posters have no relation to each other.

There are several different ways you can begin your poster collection. Perhaps you are looking for posters depicting a certain art style or certain colors to go with your home décor. Movie posters can make very nice art pieces when framed. Others may opt to collect from a specific genre, like science fiction or foreign films, or collect posters featuring a certain actor or actress. Still others may prefer to collect the posters from their favorite movies. It can be a fun way to document your favorites throughout your life.

Or you can choose to collect movie posters that have are valuable. Some of the old movie posters sell for a lot of money and make a good investment. Old horror movie posters come to mind or vintage posters of movie classics. Or perhaps you would prefer to collect posters signed by the actors in the film. A hint on signed items: you want to be sure the signatures are originals, and not stamped, printed or copied. That makes the difference between what could be a very valuable poster and one that is a dime a dozen.

You’ll want to learn more about the publicity kits the studios would send out to the movie theatres for these old movies to know what to seek out. Posters were made in many different sizes, from the large 27 x 41 inch posters to smaller versions like lobby cards and window cards. Posters were often made in sets that included all the various sizes. If you can find a complete set, or manage to collect a complete set, that raises the value of your collection immensely.

Next, no matter what kind of movie posters you have decided to collect, you need to know where to find them. Some do their shopping on eBay or other online movie memorabilia sites. Other collectors go to auctions or estate sales. If you are buying posters for newly released movies, there are many discount movie poster outlets online.

Once you have your posters, you will want to preserve them so they don’t deteriorate. Posters are usually printed on cheap acidified paper, and you can search online for ways to balance the pH and frame your posters using acid-free elements. Once your posters are framed, you will want to keep them out of the direct sunlight, as that will fade them.

If you are collecting valuable old movie posters and they are damaged, there are experts who can repair them for you. They can remove any handwriting that is on them, remove stains, tape residue, repair tears, bleeding, creases, wrinkles and fading. They can also do other major repair work. This will cost some money, but if you are building a collection of valuable posters, it may be worth the investment.

Celebrity Heights and Weights

The number of obese people around the world is increasing at an alarming rate. From sedentary lifestyles to lack of exercise and junk food, almost every conceivable reason is being attributed to this rising number. Fortunately these days there is an increased awareness about losing weight among people, thanks mainly to celebrities. In fact celebrity weight and height can act as the much needed trigger for anyone to start off on a program to shed all those extra flab.

Not all celebrities were born with the perfect shape or figure. Most of them have worked hard to get that kind of a shape. Take for instance Jennifer Lopez, who is weighs 120 pounds and is 5’7″ tall. She is a strict disciplinarian when it comes to regular workouts and her diet. The same goes for most of the macho men of Hollywood too. Sylvester Stallone stands 5’9″ tall and weighs 220 pounds, while Arnold Schwarzenegger stands 6’2″ tall and weighs 257 pounds. These two legendary stars have been in fact instrumental in people getting more conscious about their fitness and physique the world over. Their brawn has been able to draw crowds to movies along with making them health conscious.

The next time you drool over George Clooney who is weighs 210 pounds and his 5’11″ tall or on Brad Pitt who is all of 6 feet tall and weighs 200 pounds, you should also remember the kind of hard work these celebrities have put in for getting into that kind of a shape. Celebrity weight and height is mostly about working out regularly and sticking to a strict diet.

A diet that is rich in healthy carbohydrates and fats is one of the secrets of celebrity weight and height. Most of them gorge on food items that are rich in protein and fiber. Fiber is easily digestible and proteins provide the much needed energy for them to workout. This kind of a diet also ensures that a lesser number of calories are consumed by a person too.

Celebrity weight and height has become a fetish with many people. Although it the vital physical measurements of a celebrity can act as a good motivational factor for those embarking on a fitness program, one should not be carried away with false claims that you may sometimes come across. You must always remember that unless and until you are naturally well endowed, there is no other short cut to celebrity measurements. You will simply need to enjoy your workout sessions and eat right.

Celebrity Obsession?

Americans, and indeed many people around the world, are hooked on celebrity news and gossip. Our media centered world feeds this obsession. By all accounts, this Hollywood star worship continues to grow.

We can discern three reasons for this phenomenon:

1) Identity– Here an individual identifies with a particular celebrity. This is the image and personality he or she would like to be in the imagination. Even the meek and downtrodden can dream of being Bruce Willis or Sylvester Stallone defeating the bad guys in high style. How many coming of age baby boomers wished they were Elvis, a Beatle–or Ann Margaret?

2) Diversion– Psychologists know that a depressed individual will become less so when he or she can focus on some outer experience, any neutral or pleasant experience that breaks the obsession with self. Although most celebrity seekers are not depressed, this plays into the celebrity centered life. It’s pleasurable for the individual to see images of very attractive and well known stars and it’s a break from day-to-day routine activities.

3) Esteem Build-Up– We’ve all done it even if we know it’s not our best moment. We feel momentarily good about a celebrity’s messy and very public life, especially for a multi million dollar earner with many adoring fans. These public humiliations make us feel that perhaps our lives are more successful than we take credit for. We may not make millions of dollars or appear on the big screen, but at least most of us have not engaged in drunken brawls, entered luxury re-hab for the fourth time or driven a car with a baby on our lap!

Backgound

Hollywood’s influence has been felt in American culture for decades. Movie fan magazines began in 1911 and prospered through the decades with names like Photoplay and Modern Screen leading the pack. By the late 1940ss and 1950s, America’s growing wealth spurred adolescents and young adults to buy and read these magazines in even large numbers. Magazines of this era included Photoplay, Modern Screen, Silver Screen, Movie Fan, Movie Story, Screen Album, Screen Stars, and Screen Stories. Features were typically lightweight and often centered around shopping dilemmas for hounded stars or stories from the set of a new movie. The slick color photos were really the centerpieces of these magazines.

By the 1960s, specialty magazines such as Screen Legends and Film and TV Careers featured celebrity profiles and interviews. It was in this period that many magazines began featuring more salacious material to boost circulation. That led to this era’s tabloids which include the National Enquirer, the National Examiner, Star and US. Although some stories are largely fabricated, readers want to believe it and it’s the writer’s job to make each story sound credible. Although most celebrities decry the tabloids, their own publicists often suggest story lines to magazine editors. One fact is certain, sensational news is big business and the demand for this type of entertainment continues unabated.

Television and celebrity news are an ideal match. Sound, moving images and an enthusiastic host makes for addicting viewing. Entertainment Tonight began broadcasting in 1981 and set the benchmark for slick and fast paced half hour episodes focusing on Hollywood news with a focus on controversial star behavior. Cable TV outlets such as CNN, A&E, and even your local newscast often include celebrity centered programming. E! network owes its very existence to celebrities and their foibles. And Hollywood celebrities still make of the majority of late night shows’ guest lists.

Many younger fans get their news primarily from the internet. A recent Google search brings up over 18 million hits for “celebrity news.” RSS news feeds are available to bring the latest news of your favorite stars right to your desktop. Recent upstart TMZ has become an internet powerhouse. TMZ has the corporate backing of AOL and Telepictures Productions, a division of Warner Bros. The web site has garnered attention from other entertainment outlets by publishing Mel Gibson’s DUI police report, showing an image of Tom Cruise and Katie Holme’s daughter’s birth certificate and presenting a cell phone video of Michael Richard’s racial outburst at a comedy club.

The internet is a solid match for those looking for images of their favorite stars. A single site can hold many thousands of images, all cataloged by name. Web searchers can copy and paste these images for their own personal use. Popular destinations include personal blogs, My Space profiles or other social networks, and as computer desktop screen savers and wallpaper.

Is this modern day obsession with celebrity harmful? As with anything, if it interferes with conducting your daily life, it just may be. But as a leisure time activity, it’s no more than a harmless and enjoyable diversion.

Gossip Writer – Your New Career – No Kidding

Gossip writing is a rarely discussed category for freelance writers. Sure, we all aspire to be published in The New Yorker and gossip writing is not taught in journalism schools. Almost everyone gossips. In fact, more people gossip now than ever before. Their medium is the blog, particularly Facebook and other social networking sites that have replaced the old-fashioned diary with personal gossip. Most of us gossip about people we know.

In the media, gossip is about celebrities. Hundreds of “commercial blogs” are devoted to celebrity gossip, notably Deadline Hollywood Daily, The Dirty, Gawker, Hollywood Life, Just Jared, Perez Hilton, PopSugar, TMZ and many more! Some of these blogs pay for tips and use freelance writers and photographers, but it’s the magazine category that provides the greatest opportunity for freelancers.

The top-circulation celebrity news magazines are People, Us Weekly, Star and Entertainment Weekly. People, with a circulation of over 3.5 million, doesn’t call itself a gossip magazine, but it competes with the others for exclusives about celebrities. Celebrity fashions are covered by In Touch Weekly, Life & Style Weekly (both published by Bauer, a German company), People StyleWatch and InStyle (both published by Time, Inc.) and all of the big-circulation monthly women’s, men’s and teen magazines. Advertising declines in recent years have resulted in staff reductions at most magazines. Editors increasingly turn to freelancers, including those at magazines that formerly were almost totally staff written.

Celebrities are not just in the entertainment industries. Famous people include VIPs in government, sports, food, real estate, business, media and other fields. All of these fields are superbly covered in Vanity Fair, a prestigious monthly published by Condé Nast that works with many of America’s renowned freelance writers. You may not be ready for Vanity Fair but you should read it for insights about celebrity coverage. Cosmopolitan, the top-selling newsstand magazine, is a gossiper’s paradise, as are New York and other regional magazines, as well as Interview and other small-circulation magazines.

Perhaps your first thought about a gossip magazine is one of the supermarket tabloids. The National Enquirer pioneered in the placement of magazines in racks at checkout counters. Today, American Media, Inc. owns Star (its top circulation magazine), the National Enquirer and Globe. You definitely should not be embarrassed about writing for these weekly magazines. The National Enquirer had accurate scoops about O.J. Simpson, John Edwards and Tiger Woods long before other media, and mainstream journalists give it appropriate credit.

Now that you’re convinced of the importance of gossip magazines, here’s how you can get started. It’s not likely that Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, Angelina Jolie, George Clooney or Brad Pitt will grant an interview to you, even if you’re able to get the e-mail, phone or Twitter address. Here are five other interview possibilities.

1. A celebrity may be in your city promoting a book, touring a show, working in the production of a movie or TV show, vacationing or visiting friends and family. You don’t have to live in New York, Washington, Los Angeles, Las Vegas or Miami to be a celebrity reporter. Not all celebrities live in major cities. Many A-listers have primary or secondary homes in small towns, as well as such big cities as Atlanta, Chicago and San Francisco. Chances are you know that Sundance, Utah, is the home of a global celebrity.

2. It’s relatively easy to interview a relative, friend, former classmate, former boyfriend (or girlfriend), teacher or someone associated with a celebrity. Google and Wikipedia can provide biographical details. A “remembrance story” is always in demand.

2. Find a retailer, restaurant, fashion designer, architect or anyone who has a celebrity as a customer. You may find this source to be appreciative of the publicity and you can get great anecdotes about the buying, dining and entertainment habits of a celebrity.

3. Become a gossip columnist. Maybe not in the New York Post (home of Page Six and Cindy Adams) but a good place to start is a weekly newspaper in your area. Contact local theaters, restaurants, hotels, charities and their public relations representatives, and you soon will be receiving more than enough press releases to fill a weekly column. You will be invited to social events so that your column can include your personal comments and descriptions of apparel worn by local socialites. As you develop friendships with local celebrities, keep in mind that they can lead you to national celebrities. Also, when a national celebrity comes to your town, your columnist credential puts you in the press corps.

4. Here’s an assignment for you. Find a person or group in your community who you can transform from an unknown to a celebrity. Examples: a translator of a foreign best-seller, winner of an offbeat contest (best pies, most hot dogs, spelling bee winner), American Idol loser, an octogenarian, triplets (also quadruplets and quintuplets, but stay away from the Octomom), tallest, fastest (but not thinnest)… well, you get the idea!

As with any magazine article, you must be familiar with the writing style of the publication. The weekly celebrity newsmagazines and supermarket tabloids are read mostly by women. College-educated upscale women read People and the supermarket tabloids have lower demographics. Like the tabloid newspapers, the gossip magazines enjoy alliteration, colorful metaphors, puns and other humor, abbreviations, slang and coined words (usually combining parts of two words). Most important, make sure that all your information and quotes are accurate! You may want to attach to your article the names of verified sources. The magazine probably will add sensational headlines and subheads, but that’s not your job.

During the last three years, I have been writing a book about gossip. Interviews of over 200 psychologists, sociologists, anthropologists, historians and media people in the U.S. and around the world have increased my appreciation of the gossip media. I have learned that gossip, as defined by social scientists, is oral or written information about another person that usually is true or has a strong basis in fact, and often is judgmental. A rumor, on the other hand, usually is false and unverified.

Dog Friendly Exercises

Make no bones about it! If you’re among one of the millions of dog owners in the America, chances are high that you will be enjoying the weather with your four-legged friend. A dog is not only a woman’s best friend, but can also turn into the best workout partner known to man (hehe). These friendly and furry creatures are full of energy and motivation. We make suggestions on which breeds are good for each exercise, but feel free try out each exercise with “Fido.” Maybe he will find a new favorite!

Go Fetch. If you own a lab, this is the perfect exercise for you both. Grab “Fido’s” favorite toy. OK, time to try this killer fun exercise. Lay down with your back flat and your knees slightly bent i.e. the pre sit-up sit-up position (mouthful). As you reach the top of the sit-up move, throw “Fido’s” toy to send him on a wild goose chase that all dogs love. Pump out as many sit-ups as you can before he gets back. Push yourself. Each time you do this, do more sit-ups than the previous session. While Fido is running like a mad-man you are developing toned abs which you can show off in your fabulous SwimSpot bikini.

Dogstacle Course. This is a fun workout that includes an obstacle course for both human and dog. Set up obstacle stations around your back yard. Include push-ups (for you, not your shaggy friend), step climbing, dashing in-and-out between cones, etc. Courses like this work great for Border Collies. Try to complete the circuit as quickly as possible. Repeat. Repeat. If you get tired, repeat. I think you get the picture. And by the end of the workout, your dog will be panting right alongside you.

Doggie Paddle. They don’t call it that for nothing! Yes dogs, especially golden retrievers, are great swimmers. If you have the luxury of a private pool in your backyard then use it to help you and Fido slim down. Try swimming laps with your pup. After a few laps, stop to tread water and throw “Fido’s” toy. Treading water will help you catch your breath but still burn massive calories. Then go back at it and swim more laps. Swimming works all the key areas of your body. Especially that all important core, not to mention shaping those wannabe Kelly Ripa ripped arms.

Downward Dog. Yoga with your four-legged friend is a growing trend. If you are looking for a low-impact way to tone your body, this is just for you. Be sure your dog is friendly with others – English Cocker Spaniel’s are a perfect match for this one – before attempting this. ‘Doga’ combines massage, meditation and gentle stretching for dogs. Find a yoga class that includes dogs and join others like you on your journey to get into shape.

Power Paws. Small or large, feisty or lazy, all dogs love being outdoors. Try bringing your pup along on your power walk. Your dog will be ecstatic, especially if they’ve been cooped up in your apartment all day. A 2-4 mile walk is a great distance to aim for with your Yorkie. They may be small but they love long walks and can keep up. For you, add in shuffles, lunges, and light jogging to mix up your routine.

Hiking. If you are lucky to live near nature paths, hills, canyons, etc. then take advantage of it! Even if you have to drive a few miles to get to the location it’s worth it. Our req: Don’t leave “Fido” behind. A Pointer makes for a great hiking buddy with his high endurance and ability to protect you. Hiking is a good alternative to walking/running on the treadmill. Breathe in the fresh clean air and soak up the sun while working out!

Be sure that you watch Fido’s intake of water before and after exercising. Sometimes dogs lap up too much water and tend to get sick. A good trick is to dump out half of his water bowl before you head for your workout. This way Fido won’t get an immediate tummy ache. But stay attentive. Your dog, very much like you, needs to consume water throughout whatever exercise you take advantage of. Hopefully both you and your pup will slim down and enjoy your outdoor bonding time.
